WDRA Super Dirt Series Heads to Redneck R/C
On Sunday October 22nd, the WDRA Super Dirt Series will make stop number 9 on the 2006 tour at Redneck R/C in Fulton, NY. Racing at Redneck has moved back into “The Dungeon” for the fall & winter season. The tight confines of the subterranean oval will provide a tricky challenge and close racing.
In the Modified division, Matt Olmsted and Jeff Hotaling both have 2 A-main wins, but Olmsted holds a slim 1 point lead in the standings. Both have many laps on the Redneck oval, and will be looking to leave with the point lead. Lee Morris sits in third, and may be out of striking distance of the lead. Jim Carr and his CDK house-car currently sit 4th, while Rochester’s Terry Schmitt rounds out the top 5.
A look at the Big Block Stock points finds series rookie Dan Gill with a comfortable lead over 2005 champion Dale Hartzell. Both drivers have reached victory lane on one occasion in 2006. Drivers pulling double-duty make up the remainder of the top 5, with Lee Morris holding down third, Jeff Hotaling in 4th, and Jim Carr in 5th, the only driver in the division to reach victory lane more than once.
In the Small Block ranks, Sean “Meatball” Leonard holds the lead on consistent finishes, and will be looking to break into victory lane, on what could be considered his home track. Jan Poyneer is comfortably in second. EJ French holds 3rd with a relatively slim lead over Bob “Captain Cupcake” Egan, while Larry Morris rounds out the top 5.[/FONT]
Also joining the WDRA point racers will be Stock Trucks and Sprinters. The WDRA points race on Sunday will be the culmination of an entire weekend of racing at Redneck, as the track kicks off its 2006/2007 indoor winter season with the “Triple Crown Weekend”, featuring cash bonuses for drivers who can manage to grab more than one win. Please visit www.RedneckRC.com (http://www.redneckrc.com/) for more details on the prizes.
If anyone is still interested, I still have 5 or 6 Summernationals T-shirts in XL available, and with any luck, I’ll actually remember to bring them.
In other news: The 2006 Series finale is set and confirmed for November 5th at the newly renovated and reopened Bumps & Jumps Raceway, just south of Harrisburg, PA. Stay tuned here for more details in the coming days.
