I was wanting to make a track in southern Illinois, but i had some questions. When building a track is there a curtain length the track must be? The other question was is there a rule to where on big night instead of just giving tires and parts away, could there be money giving away to the top 5 finishers and the rest of the field would get their entry fees back? I was just wondering maybe that would get more racers involved. If anyone has some answers let me know.

thanks

If you build it with your money, I imagine you can do just about anything you want. Check other tracks in your area for their track lengths and follow there lead. We have cash races here, and it works okay. Our local track gives track bucks for regular race nights, but we have had cash pot races before. Give different things a try and go with what works best.

Be careful about the money thing. We have to keep in mind that we race toy cars. There is somthing about racers that when there is money on the line they tend to loose that we are there to do, have fun. It has worked out well for us in the past for the racers to put a pot of cash together. That way the track owner is impartial to the results and can be the judge of any controversy with rules or making a call on rough driving with out upsetting someone. Like an extra $5 bucks when you race a sertain class. That way the track is not out giving away it's hard earned money. It would be up to you if you want to give away some parts or something but even that takes off the cash from the tracks bottom line. Also don't do it every week, befor you know it they will expect more and bigger. I like the ribbon and sticker ideas for winning and throw in a few bowling trophies once a month. After all it's fun winning bragging points and trophies but racing for money is like work and takes the fun out of racing toy cars.

As dirtsprinter has said be carefull about cash races! been there done that :skull: but on a side note Newville pays cash back every week,, notice i said every week. Not a once and time or a big race thing. this has seems to taken a big edge off the racing for cash. since this is done every week, most just go to have fun, and if they place in the cash great if not. there is always next week.

I Agree With Dirtsprinter. The Fun Of R\c Racing Tends To Fade When $$$ Is Involved. Jus Remember This Is For Fun. Yes It Does Help With A Lil Extra Cash On Paying For Parts Tires Ect.
From My Past Experiance, Running For Money Jus Breeds Frustration And Caused Some Hard Feelings. In Others Words If You Run For Money Do It Only Ever So Often. Maybe Once A Month. This Way R\c Racing Is Keep To Being A Hobby And Fun.
Give Out Trophys Decals Or Prizes. This Is My Opinion In General. I Think It Works Out Better This Way

My thing that i am wanting to do is, have at least three big races a year. One in the beginning, middle, and at the end of the year. The rest of the races I was thinking a sticker or a trophy.
thanks for the advice guys.

Guys, out of the 4 money races I have attended I can say they were the CLEANEST races I'd ever run. Knowing that your racing for a payout tends to make everyone stay clean as in the top 3 - 5 cars\trucks. Say your in second and your looking at a A-Main payout of $50 instead of first places payout of $100....your not going to chance taking someone out or getting taken out and relegating yourself to a "out of the money" spot.

That's my past experiences....;)

Personally I believe that a one nght cash race is a bad idea... it brings out the best and worst in people. Even racing for weekly "hobby bucks" seems to turn some more agressive....

My feelings are that a points series with a payout at the end would be fine as long as there is an allowance for at least 2 throw-out races so that the guys who can't make every last race isn't left out.....
