A long time ago we used to use battry bugs to take batteries down before charging. Is it still necessary for todays batteries?

You dont need to discharge after every run. I leave whats left in the pack after racing until the day before I use it again and discharge 20-30 amps then put on the Novak smart tray down to .9 volts. If your just bashing just charge them and run them, dont worry about this.

You only need to discharge NiMh down to 0 volts if you're going to dead short them.

I remember those little critters they were cool!!! If I remember though they were used to help eqaulize the pack.

I race stock mostly so I dead short my packs. It loses some run time but hellps with the voltage. Go to SMC or ProMatch site and there is info on what and how on batteries. Big thing about dead shorting is once you do it to a pack you must always do it.
Thing about batteries is what ever you decide to do ALWAYS do the same procedure every time you charge and discharge they like that

The battery bugs of old would dischsrge your pack down to .7 volts. Thats when the LED would go out. Sound familiar. Today we use discharge trays for the same purpose but they also give us the capablility to discharge each cell seperately so you can equalize the pack. Still better than nothing
