Im looking at getting set up for racing at the local out door dirt oval track. And a local carpet track is talking about adding a buggy and stadium truck class to their oval night races during the winter. Ive got 3 old cars here, but dont know if any of them are even worth messing with. Ive got
1) RC10 championship edition, missing slipper clutch, front spindles and wheel bearings, otherwise, complete roller hardly used. Does have the original stealth tranny.
2) An original JRX2, with a Junior2 chassis and support brace. Very complete roller, but all original.
3) Losi XXT. Complete roller, no mods, still has the hydradrive--not sure if it works, havent driven it yet.
Are any of these even worth using? Can I still get parts for any of these?
What am I looking for in the way of batteries and charger? I havent got a small bankroll to invest in all brand new top of the line products. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I know there are still guys racing XXT's and doing well with them. As far as batteries and charger, that depends what you want. For chargers, you can get a lot of different kinds that have thier own power supplies that work very well, and that'll probably be your best bet on a budget. You can get a Reedy Quantum Pro for under $200 I think, and anything comparable will do the same things. You'll want to look for peak charging capabilities at the very least, and the Quantum Pro allows you to charge at different amp rates and dictate how you want it to stop when it peaks. It also has a discharger, and there are a bunch of different manufacturers building very similar units.
As far as batteries, that really depends who you're racing with. If you're running some goof off fun stuff, you coluld probably get by with some off-the-shelf race packs, but if you're really serious about going as fast as you possibly can, you're going to want to look into some serious matched race packs, which range in price from about $50 to $100, depending on the kinde of voltage they produce and thier runtime.
Good Luck!

The RC10 can be made to work and be competitive easily.
The JRX2 can also be made to work very well.If it has the XX retrofit transmission I would use it,but if it still has the old LRM trans I would not-they're too fragile.
I have a stock XXT and it's plenty fast enough to win.Parts are still available, but I have yet to break anything on mine so far this season(knock on wood!).I would ditch the hydradrive though-it's heavy.Just set it up with a pretty "soft" off-road setup and you will be close enough that we can get you dialed in at the track.Look me up when you get there-I'm the guy with all the black & gold cars.
The GREAT thing about running out at Checkered Flag is that it is a loose track and it is truly all about setup and driving. The guy with the most horsepower isn't the fastest-the guy that can make use of his horsepower is.They allow adjustable timing 19turns in trucks so if you need some more power you can just crank some in(I turn mine down to 12-18 degrees). There is no reason to spend a bunch of money on high dollar batteries.I am very serious about going fast, but my $32 1.16 packs are plenty powerful enough. Also they run 4 min races so runtime is not an issue.Simply put, spending money on trick stuff won't give you any advantage out there-which is prob a big part of why we get 60-70 cars every raceday.
You can spend a bunch of money on a charger if you want, but you don't need to.I use old Tekin 112's - you can pick up those or used Novak Milleniums and many others for around $50.You can spend more but it won't gain you a thing.
Carpet is a whole nother story. It is usually a big battery/motor/tire/dollar war.If they decide to let you run mod it will be a little better.
Due to all the rain this past week we will be racing this coming Sunday-come on out and bring what you've got.

Alright, glad to see someone on here that can give me some good info as to what works out there. By the end of the week my XXT should be here, and a couple of 2400 packs will hopefully be here, but other than my radio and an old novak T4 ESC (which Im told wont hold up to modern motors), I still wont have a charger, race batteries or a motor yet. But I do plan on coming out next weekend and checking things out in person. Ill probably track you down and pick your brain about stuff.
Where are you getting your batteries and your used chargers? Is there some place local that sells used chargers and such? Im going to have to be a very budget minded racer in order to be able afford to race (and to keep the old lady happy  ). Im seriously hoping that I can get the wife to be into this too.
Far as racing indoors goes, I may not do it, dont know for sure yet. I know the money wont be there for the motor/battery/tire war.
Big thanx for all of the help and suggestions guys. Found someone selling 2 intellipeak chargers for $25 each shipped, would they be a good choice?
BTW do they still make bodies for the XXT? Mine looks pretty awful and will need to go eventually. See for yourself. HERE (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=5991923464&ru=http://search.ebay.com:80/5991923464_W0QQfromZR40QQsojsZ1QQfviZ1)

The Novak T4 should be fine with a 19 turn, and I still use 2400's in my truck.I have bought used stuff here on this board(1st choice)and on rctech-lots of great guys to deal with here.XXXT bodies fit the XXT just fine.Get you a motor of some sort to put in there and get some laps in! Sweet deal on your truck too.
See you at the races!
