Here is a picture of my new Bulletproof sprint car. It has not been raced yet, but it looks promising in testing.
Or maybe not, my file size is too large.

Yeah, they finally made it. This is my first attempt at a DODC legal sprint car. My son and I are currently running an Out Front Frames "Outlaw" Sprint car. Axis (Wes) is the owner of Out Front Frames. He was kind enough to post these pictures for me. I think it is a nice gesture for the owner of one brand of sprint car to post pictures of another brand of sprint car for someone. Thanks Wes, you are the man.
P.S.- for those familar with an OFF sprint car, the front bumper and front wing on this car are adapted from an OFF sprinter.

I will give him a shout. The tires that are on the sprint in the picture are from my OFF car. They are too wide to be DODC legal. Dan got me some Custom Works premounted tires and they work well. They are pricey though. Any savings is appreciated.

James ... be careful on buying to many B3 wheels --- as soon as we get the new Klein rear arms in ... combined with the losi axle /hub carrier ... you can run max width with B4 wheels...
Larry ... does that same place sell B4 foams as well> ???

yes... he does b4 as well... i've got several sets of b4 wheels from him. i use both the b4 and cw foams, just depends on the situation.

Got a question for sprint car owners. Is it me or is the upper wing sitting a little to low? I know on full size they are a bit higher. Is it set that way for a reason? Thanks in advance

on rc sprints they are typically always run way too low. actually they'd run them that low in real ones too, but they wouldnt be able to see :)
i personally think they look better sitting up higher.. but i am guilty of running it low too, pretty much everyone is now. think of it the same as the billboard sides most guys run on edms... not realistic and dont look good, but they do it for aero.

On a real sprint car, the side boards produce alot of side force as they enter the corner and I would think the higher the wing, the more leverage to the chassis.

I've always wondered why those Klien sprint cars don't use a hollow wing. Running a flat wing plane really doesn't produce a great deal of downforce compared to a wing plane that's steeper on the underside. Keeping in mind that a sprint car wing works from the negative pressure on the underside much more than from the positive pressure on the top (works in reverse on an airplane), a steeper angle underneath would produce downforce increased by geometric proportions over the flat one.
Also, someone else mentioned the idea that a higher wing would produce more leverage on the car, which is also true. The wings could be moved a little higher and a little forward and look much more realistic, increase downforce while still keeping it in the same place on the car, allow for even more side force, and allow more room for air to travel underneath them where most of the downforce is actually created.
Everything I've written here is supported by aerodynamic fact, and whether you find it on the internet, at your library, or even in an ancient set of encyclopediae that you may have lying around. I'd suggest everyone who runs those things to go start reading right now, because the first one who really understands it and applies it correctly is gonna whup the crap outta the rest of you until everyone gets on board.

unfortunately not everything full scale translates to these small rc cars. i believe there was some info out here a while back where some testing was done and due to the small size of the airfoil style wing and the turbulence created by the rollcage that the airfoil wings were no better than a curved single sheet of lexan. so all u really got out of the clam shell design was extra weight. don't take that as the gospel, but that's what i've heard out here many times over the last few years.

The guys at Out Front Frames experimented with a true carbon fiber/molded lexan airfoil top wing. It had the same cross section as a full size sprint car. It seemed to provide great downforce on the straights but made the cars twichy entering and exiting the corners. The OFF car is based on a RC10GT truck platform so it is alittle larger than a DODC car. The top wing never got past the testing phase. There are enough sharp people out there, that if it really worked in RC cars they would have it, and we would all be trying to copy their ideas. I just race them the way they come and don't sweat the small things.

There are enough sharp people out there, that if it really worked in RC cars they would have it, and we would all be trying to copy their ideas.
Custom Works has used them since the electric Enforcers were released back in the early 90's. If you look at their record(s) over the years, it would be difficult to conclude anything other than "it works"...???... If there were something better / lighter / faster, surely they would have changed it up by now.
I remember opening my first CW wing kit, back when the cars first came out, thinking what the..... However, when it was complete, it (the car) looked so much more realistic than any other RC sprint around and it just worked.
James - your BP car looks awesome!
