A local track is just starting some outdoor oval racing. One of the classes is a "Bomber" style class. I will be racing this class using an original RC10 buggy chassis. Here are the track rules for this class which is called "Thunder Stock":
THUNDER STOCK:
Chassis: 1/10th Scale Electric 2wd (aka: Bomber)
Motor: 27T
Batteries:3600 Max
Tires: Any Street Style Rubber Tire on all 4 corners (NO Knobbies)
Body: 1950 - 1980 Street Car (Body must be stock from manufacturer. No Pony Cars or Trucks Ie: Mustang, Fire Bird, El Camino, Pick-up. Wheels can not go out of wheel wells more than 1/4")
My question is what wheels and tires would/should fit on the RC10 in accordance with the "not more than a 1/4" out of the wheel wells" rule? The body I'll be using is about 8" wide. Thanks in advance.

With out seeing what you have it's kind of hard but I will throw somethings at you. To the best of my knowledge the ones I have seen run like the old 1957 Ford and the 1955 Chevy bodies made by McAllister. Or the parma 1970 Mustang or the 1970 Hemi Cuda I don't know the width of them but they will all fit a pan car. When I say pancar I mean one of the old ones like Bolink you can get some of them cheap on E-Bay. Another idea is if the chassis has arms go to a shorter set of them. Probably the best thing to do is ask some of the guy's that are running the class already to see what they have done. Hope this is some help and good luck With this new undertaking.

I'll be running an original RC10 buggy chassis with either the McAllister '55 Chevy or a similar width body. This class hasn't officially run at the track yet, so there are no other cars to check out.

I ran a McAllister bomber body on a Dual Sport, andonly had a bit of wheel clearance. Good luck.

The only wheels that I know of that inset would be B4 wheels but they won't work on the old 1/4 inch axles and probably will rub.

It sounds like you may have to run Custom Works wheels and tires. They are narrow enough that they may not stick out of the body by more than 1/4 inch. :skull:

that sounds like a cool class. back about 5 years ago we used to run the wide nascar bodies on the rc 10's with a 4 cell battery pack.

I found out that some guys are converting the rear axles to 3/16", but I'm not sure what parts are needed to do that. They are then running the Custom Works wheels and tires.

fyi...
the 55 chev and 57 ford bodies are right around 8" wide. we run a bomber class, but its nitro, and the allowable width is 9" - 10.25" this allows for the tires to stick out more like the real bombers.
here's a couple examples:

93TA - Those look neat. What chassis are you using and are you running shorter arms?

Nice looking cars.
What chassis is under the #7 body? I am thinking about using the '55 Chevy body on a 4wd buggy, but I'm just not sure how far the tires would stick out.

#7 car is a ntc3(2wd) w/ buggy wheels and gt axles.
#63 is a gt black tub chassis, w/ rc10 arms/suspension. this car is 10.25 wide at the rear wheels.

With my bomber I changed out the rear axle bearings and added a set of b3 cvds. All you need is a set of 3/16"x3/8" flanged bearings. That alowed me to run the custom works wheels and tires.
Hope that helps

That's it? The hub carriers remain unchanged? Also, are the front axles the same size as the newer Associated buggies? Please bear with me here, my RC10 has not arrived yet so I can't look at things for myself. I'm just trying to get an idea of what needs to be done. Thanks

You will need new hub carriers from a GT. If it has dog bones then you can get B3/B4 stub axles for the RTR and 3/16 bearings. The front axles should be fine, if stock.

If it comes with the old style flanged bearings you will need too replace it with the parts the numbers are ASC 7365 0deg hub carriers ASC 7377 bearing spacers ASC 8868 Dual sport stub axle. You can use the stock dog bones I have raced the cars with them and have never had one fall out. universals and cvd are nice but they dont make the car preform any faster. I have the parts in stock should you need them. you can contack me at speedraycermach5@hotmail.com

You will need diffrent rear hub carriers or like I stated in my origonal post, get 3/8"X3/16" FLANGED bearings. I purchased FLANGED bearings and didnt replace hub carriers. It works great with b3 cvd and a few shims.
