19 year old Dane Durbin, also known as ThatUglyKid on this board, and my son, recorded his second career and first Cedar Lake Speedway feature win in our Wissota Midwest Modified on Saturday, July 30.
We've been consistently the fastest car on the track for about the last 6 weeks, and it's just taken this long for all the planets to align themselves and allow us to be in front at the end, and we're hoping this is the monkey off our back that will allow us to win a lot more in coming weeks and months.
Dane started outside the front row and pretty much checked out, taking away about a carlength from the middle on out of every turn, and there wasn't a car on the track that had even a remote chance of running us down, even with yellows and 3 restarts. The car's been a rocket on the slick for the last 2 years now, and has just in the last 2 months become pretty brutal on the tack as well, which is pretty big for us, as I've been consistently mediocre on a high traction surface for as long as I can remember, blaming it on my lack of ability to afford the kind of horsepower to run with the big dogs. This year, though, we've taken some of our philosophy toward the dry slick and applied it to our tacky track setup and found a lot more corner speed. Just goes to show again that races are won and lost in the corners and not under the hood in every class.
Special Thanks to Dan at Ultraline RC for his sponsorship support for both the big car and both mine and Dane's RC programs, and for his great friendship and just plain being a fun guy to race and hang out with.
Proud Dad and Crew Chief...just taking this chance to say how much. Dane, ya did a he11 of a job!
