Hello everyone I need some help. My father and I recently ordered a klein menace kit and we're shopping for a powerplant for it. Problem is that im not sure what crank type we need for the car. I know it uses the ntc3 type clutch setup but I have heard different things from different people as far as which crank to go with. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!

I do not own a Klein, so my advice is subject to debate. The guys here who own Kleins use a threaded crank/rotary carb engine. I have a Bulletproof car and I use a SG shaft/slide carb engine. 44TX you back from Monee? Give this fellow some expert advice on what engine works best in a Klein.

Mikedawg, You can use either style that you prefer. It will accept each. As far as the carb goes you should get a slide carb. I prefer them because of the response. Most of the oval people use the slide but there are others that prefer the rotary.

I prefer a slide carb because of the parallel control linkage arrangement. I use a Klein custom engine mount to off-set the SG shaft engine so it aligns with the spur gear correctly. I have just finished my Bulletproof car so I am new to the DODC legal class of cars. We have a OFF sprint car that we have raced for some time. I decided to see how the other half lives, and built the Bulletproof to race. A Custom Works GSX may be in the near future, so I am glad to learn all the info that I can on these smaller sprint cars. I like the Klein sprint kit based on the Losi concept also. So many toys, so little time!

Thanks for the help guys but unfortunetly im still confused... there are 3 types of cranks as far as i know... threaded, short threaded (like in my GT), and "SG". So which ones can i use? I want to go with an O.S. like this... http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/WTI0001P?&I=LXJFY8&P=V Will that one work?

Also I will be running custom works front and rear tires. I already got the cusom works front rims and was told they would fit/work fine on the klein but im not sure what rims i need for the rear. Im lost so exact part numbers or links would be extremely helpful.

Also can i use this
http://nitrosprintcars.com/store/CubeCart/upload/view_product.php?product=K0060
with that engine above? It says no SG w/o modification????
Thanks again for your help everyone!

This is a no brainer ! you can use a threaded crank and shorten it with a gt cut off nut or you can buy the short threaded. Both of these use gt clutch & flyweel. You can also buy the sg crank ( pilot shaft ) motor and use a nitro tc3 clutch and flywheel.Recommend a slide carb due to easy linkage hookup.
Klein has motor mounts for all types.
He is in Monee till today then he will return your call.

Mike, as far as the custom works wheels go you can use the losi2038 hub carriers for the rear and the wheels will bolt up with no modifications. These hub carriers will also give you more roll center adjustments. Get the threaded crank and a GT cut off nut and cut off the crank at the nut then attach the NTC non-pullstart fly wheel and add the clutch nut. Get a two-speed threaded clutch bell with the bearings and the clutch shoes for the NTC. Springs for the clutch has 2 types. Standard is what I use or you can use the copper ones which are stiffer.

Wow! I just got off the phone with Dennis and he's a super nice guy. He of course answered any questions I had left and even made some reccomendations on a few other items. The best thing is that he'll be coming out to my local track later this month and offered to help set the car up! Super nice guy with great customer service. I was going to buy an electric sprint as well and now im convinced that another Klein is the only way to go! :D

Thanks again everyone for all your help!

Woot --- it was my understanding that the new Klein arms will have the ability to take a Losi hub carrier and axle that will push the car wider on the rear track and then you can run B4 wheels and stay legal ..... pretty cool stuff from the Double trouble crew. I think the run at Monee this weekend could send a clear message that the car can be very good with the right setup.

Dennis let me know that associated part number 6802b (black 2.0in buggy rims) are a direct fit and work well with the custom works rear tires. Imma give them a try.
