Just my 2 cents Kipp, I am not a fan of that kind of filter. I have used them in the past and they just dont keep dirt out, I would look inside the filter and it was just awful.
Also it always seems when during a race someone loses a filter it is a K&N. and boy do they make a good ramp.

K&N's Universal Air Filters are designed and manufactured for a wide variety of applications including racing vehicles, radio-controlled cars, generators, snowmobiles, tractors, and other applications. Regardless of the angle or offset diameter of the air intake, there is probably a K&N Universal air filter for your equipment. All filters are constructed with ultra-strong molded pliable rubber flanges which absorb vibration and allow for secure attachment and can also be stretched for up to 1/16" (1.5mm) to fit in-between sizes. K&N universal air filters are washable and reusable.

I use K&N filters on my vechicles, but I too was not impressed with them on my R/C cars. I currently use a Mugen filter made for an 1/8 scale buggy. Works great.

I use nothing other than K&N filters. With a good tie strap for installation they should never come off. I don't think I ever lost one until the 50mph hit I took at Newville last week. Something's gotta give at those speeds to a dead stop. I highly recommend them, and they are very easy to clean. I won't buy anything else. IMO

Motor Saver Filters are the best!!!
not really... i used to run them(motorsavers) on all my motors, until one was responsible for ruining a new nova sx12 in 1 raceday. i quickly replaced them on all my cars, w/ 1/8 scale buggy style filters... which probably are the best filters you can get.

I race shifter karts and some dirt oval and only use K&N. They have become one of my sponsors. Not sure how they work on RC cars. But they're filter cleaner works great.

all you guys saying that you ruined a motor in 5min. just wondering did you put any oil in the filter? the filter will not do anything if you don't put oil onit. the oil catches the dirt.

i have seen the 'insides' of someone who ran the K&N air filter religiously with proper filter use (cleaning , oiling, etc). Every one of his engines had bad/gritty rear engine bearings.
I would have to say that this person did NOT run the pre-filter foam that comes with (or used to) the paris racing version of the filter. i think that this pre-filter could be extremely important.
i like the motor saver filters and have been running them for many years. the key to the motor saver (like others) is keeping it clean and oiled. you must also make sure tha you are not using a more open top screen if you are in an extremely dusty situation(there are 2-3 different tops that you can run). you also have to make sure that you run the correct foam filter in the top. if you use the foam filter with a hole in the center for all three filters, the intake will not be protected in dusty situations.
my 2 cents

I Run K&N Filters On Every Street Aqnd Race Bike I Ever Owned And They Work Great. So I Was A Big Belever In Them..i Yousd K&N Filter Oil And A Pre Filter Just To Be Safe. And It Didnt Help At All..the Track Was Very Dusty That Day Though And I Doubt That You Will Ever Run On A Oval That Is Near That Bad...but Why Take The Chance!!..get A Good 1/8 Buggy Filter Or One Made For A 12 And You Wont Have To Worry About It At All..just My 2 Cents Worth

The filters that fit RC cars are not really meant to filter. They are just normally used to decorate a breather hose. Thats what most sprint cars in my area use for a breather. I believe in them for all my "real" race cars but I never use them for a RC car.

The air filter directly effects the life of your motor. The oil in the fuel is the only lubrication for the motor and if it gets airborn particles of dirt in it just one time for one lap on the race track, your motor may never be the same. I use a 1/8 scale filter housing with removable foam elements and I carry 4 of them (elements 2$ each) with me to the track and change them as needed throughout the day. Wash them each week and re-oil them and do it again. Changing them out keeps the motor allways breathing through a clean filter while keeping the performance consistent throughout the day/night. Running one filter throughout the entire day/night just wont cut it at most tracks if at any. Also, you have to use a "foam filter oil" as it has additives in it for "tack" so the oil stays in the filter to collect dirt and dust. The foam filter oil is not too expensive especially when compared to the price of a motor! All that makes no difference if the carb boot is not sealed tight! If you have a sweet running motor and want to keep it that way, pay as much attention to the air filter and boot as you do the tune, temp and type of fuel you run! I myself would not even use a K&N on a parking lot racer but that is just my opinion. I look elswhere than the airfilter for performance gains.

I had bad luck with a K&N filter I ran, however it was a borrowed filter from a buddy at the track. I do not think he oiled ot properly. He said he did, but you know the kind of guy I am talking about.
I ran one a new one on an MT12 and it worked great(I oiled it!) and lasted well longer than the motor. And the secret to keeping them on the car? I used a Heavy Duty Automotive hose clamp. NEVER fell off.

I agree with Creg and Cris K&N looks cool but thay don,t work as well as some others and thay cost more.
