We're trying to get some 1/18 oval racing going at our LHS. They want to run on pavement as well as their foam track. Does anyone have any links or info on 1/18 oval racers? We're running the RC18T and Mini-T. A few of us just finished up our EDM bodies and are looking forward to some racing. If anyone's interested, I'll post pics of our cars.

We were racing 18t's this past spring in TX. We had McAllister dirt late model bodies w/side dams. Mamba 8000 kv brushless systems running lipo batteries. Talk about fast. They were awsome. We had to put weight in the front to keep from getting air under the cars and making them airborn. :) You might also check out www.one18th.com (http://www.one18th.com) . I'll see if I can dig up some pictures.

i like the red one. looks like the same body type as the others except the one thei the sail pannels. somthing baout the tires makes it look mean.

i might make an edm body soon. mine will slightly cover the wheels and and be a bit more scale in apearence then say like the parma ones.

nice job tho.

I regularly check out one18th.com, but there's nothing going on with dirt oval there.

The tires on the red one are Team Losi "Street Meats". I just put a set on the green/black car last night. Now it's got more of the look it needed.

I am glad that we are promoting the mini-rc world because most of the people I know think that all of these minis are just another car from radioshack but really they have the ability to rip like their 1/10 scale counter part

Here's an updated pic of mine with the more "correct" street tires.

I originally picked up a mini for something to do during the snowy winter months or on rainy days. We built a 32'x13' off-road track in our basement last winter. On weekends several buddies would head over and we'd have a blast racing on an actual track. Now that some of us are getting interested in oval, we're going to tear down the off-road track and make a nice 32'x13' oval track for these 1/18 racers. Of course it won't be dirt, but I may use that Rust-Oleum "Epoxy Shield" basement floor coating. That would give the track a smooth surface with a bit of slip which should be good for oval racing.

I think many hobby shops have over looked the 1/18 scale racing machines. They have many hop up parts and many body styles for oval racing and you don't need alot of space to race these machines. Even outdoor dirt ovals would only need a small space. Perhaps even in a parking lot in front of hobby shops would ony require a couple of parking spaces. Some times we become accustomed to the 1/12 and 1/10 cars too much and it is true most 1/10 racers look down on the 1/18 cars as being not as fast or hi-tech as 1/10. Look at the lap times on some of the small ovals as "LITTLE-O" and the 1/18 cars are turning the same laps in 4 min with a stock motor as the 1/10 EDM stock. With a modified 1/18 the laps would probably match a 1/10 modified EDM. The cost 150.00 with stock and 175.00 for modified. Of course you could add extra parts and bring the cost up to 300.00 and over just like the Hot-Shoes do. Take you pick but I thing this class of racing will grow in the future and many shops will be left out if the don't start stocking these cars soon.

So Blacksheep, where did you get the template for the EDM body? Did you make it? Have you thought about selling them?

i cant answer for blacksheep but i think its a parma body.

i dont want to hijack the thread but i have been thinking of adding an edm body to line up. i make latemodel bodies. would you guys prefer a more scale looking body, one that partialy covers the rear wheels. i mean width wise.

RobRacer - The body is made by Parma. It comes in a flat sheet all pre-punched. You don't even have to cut it out with scissors.

twisted - I'm new to the oval racing thing. I understand this body isn't scale accurate for an EDM, but it's almost like a mix between an EDM and an IMCA modified(which they run at the 1:1 track near my house), and leans more toward the IMCA. Either way, I really like the look of the Parma body. After all, it IS just an RC...so I guess it can look like anything. My 1/8 buggies don't look anything like a 1:1 off-road buggy and that doesn't bother me a bit.:D

everyone has thier oppinion. i myself dont like the look of the parma body. looks like a 1/10 edm body on a truck chassis, i want to make one that makes it look more like car, kind of like my latemodel bodies.

post not ment to offend anyone.

None taken. I'm looking forward to seeing your version for the RC18T. I may have to pick one or more up. :)

The LHS ordered it in for me. Tower Hobbies has a few in stock http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXKPY0&P=7

It looks like there are 2 different Parma bodies. The one on the Green car is on an 18T. Will the same body fit on the Mini-T or is the receiver/Speed Control too high??

I checked it out on my Mini-T. I think the RC18T body would work with a little trimming.
