Before we get too far into this, it should be mentioned that avatars should be kept within FAMILY tastes, and not be offensive in nature. R/C car racing is a sport for all ages, and we have all ages on these boards. If avatars are not kept within the boundaries of good taste, then we will go to an approval system for ALL avatars. If that doesn't work, then the avatar function will be pulled back to stock forum-supplied avatars only.

There is always a balance between file size and image quality. It's generally a trade-off, but a good photo program like Photoshop or Image Ready can show you a preview of the image before you actually save it down. You can adjust quality and color levels before saving. I think our avatars are limited to about 30k in size. For a small image with not a lot of colors, sometimes GIFs work better, sometimes JPGs work better. It depends on the colors and detail.

I know, a very unaswered answer, but it is kind of a "feel" thing with image editing software.

The pic is too big .... I just downloaded it and adjusted the size for you .... I will email it to you and then you can just say 'browse' and pull it off your desktop.

Avatars need to be 100 x 100 (72dpi). That image is 300 x 225, which is perfect for the Profile photo. ;) Try using it in the other Control Panel Profile area.

Easiest way to do this is to drag/save the image to your desktop, then upload right to the site. You can pull images right off of your computer to upload to the profile.

It's WAY easier than trying to link to a photo on a server somewhere, and works much better.

You can take the image right from that post. Drag or save it to your desktop then upload it to your avatar control panel page. There is no link to that photo, it is housed in the forum database.

I have allways used this http://imageshack.us/ seems to work pretty good. Just tell it where the file is and on down the page it says use this link for a avatar.

Yes, but you don't need a web host to upload photos and avatars to this site. They are stored here on the server, in a database. The best performance will always be to have them here, and not hosted elsewhere, where other server can go down and offline.

Just a simple upload right from your computer, and the avatar is stored here forever, or until you replace it.

You can't use images in your signature file. You must upload your avatars in the Avatar section of the Control Panel. You also can't use full size image as your avatars. They must be smaller than 100 x 100 pixels in image size.


Try again.

I resized your photo that you had burried in your link there, so that you can use it in your avatar. Give this one a shot...
